Hello! 안녕하세요!
My name is Ye-Jee Jung (she/her), and I am currently a postdoctoral research fellow at the City University of New York (CUNY), advised by Drs. Amy Vogel-Eyny (Hunter College, CUNY) and Loraine K. Obler (Graduate Center, CUNY).
I hold a PhD in Linguistics, and my primary research interests are acoustics of accented English produced in an adversed communicative setting (i.e., clear speech) and its perceptual consequences for listeners (i.e., clear speech benefit). At CUNY, I study the impact of social isolation on language-related outcomes (e.g., lexical retrieval) in older people.
Before coming to Purdue, I received a BA and a MA in English Language and Literature at Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea. Back then, I studied English lexical stress produced by non-native English speakers whose L1 backgrounds were Korean, Japanese and Chinese. I also conducted a similar study extracting speech samples from a corpus called AESOP (Jung & Rhee, 2018).
On weekends, I love watching the English Premier League as a huge fan of Arsenal (COYG!). I can't also start my day without listening to Oasis (who else is still ardently waiting for their reunion?) and sipping a cup of latte.
